The Deputy Inspector General of Police, James Ochaya, has informed the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament that security personnel will continue to guard the premises of National Unity Platform (NUP) President Robert Kyagulanyi until the occupants return.
Ochaya said the continued police presence is intended to prevent vandalism and protect the property, noting that the premises are currently unoccupied.
“We are still at the premises to provide security… Police will only leave the place when the occupants come back,” he said.
The remarks were made as officials from the Uganda Police Force appeared before the committee to respond to issues raised in the Auditor General’s report for the financial year 2024/2025.
Ochaya explained that the deployment was a precautionary measure meant to safeguard the property in the absence of its occupants.
The police presence at Kyagulanyi’s premises follows heightened political tensions, with authorities maintaining that the deployment is solely aimed at protecting assets from potential vandalism or damage.
